The movie is about a wandering musician Ranbir Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) who arrives in this magical town and is taken under the wing of the kind prostitute Gulabjee (Rani Mukherjee). Ranbir falls in love with a mysterious beautiful girl who waits for her lover Imaan (Salman) on a bridge, Sakina (Sonam Kapoor). Despite knowing she loves another, he tries to woo her.
It is an out and out romantic movie made artistically. It marks the debut of Rishi Kapoor's son, Ranbir. Also the debut of Anil Kapoor's daughter, Sonam Kapoor.
