Historical Movie, Good Music, Good Ambience |
| The Shell: |
The story of Heer Ranjha is the stuff of legends. This movie goes behind the story and
examines the life of the author of Heer, Waris Shah. In some cases his life seems to run parallel to
that of his hero Ranjha. He sees Heer in Bhagpari. His mentor, his peer-murshid, Makdum had prophesied
that he would achieve greatness after he had suffered love-torment and heartbreak. Bhagpari is betrothed
elsewhere and his love cannot be consummated. He is heartbroken but he immortalizes it in the tale of
Heer Ranjha. |
| The Feel: |
It is not a movie for the ordinary unschooled moviegoer. You have to have read Heer or be
familiar with its story to be able to sit through this movie. It has done well in the film festivals and will
continue to referred to and watched by people who love literature and Waris Shah |
| The Spiel: |
A brave effort by Manoj Punj with authentic touches to the movie, period wise. Heer is sung in the
traditional way by various artists and is the highlight of the film. Divya Dutta puts in a spirited performance
as Sabo, Bhagpari’s evil sister-in-law. The music by Jaidev is a definite highlight |
