2007 did not shine as much, moneywise, as 2006 did.

But, the movies were more experimentative. Chak De! India and Amir Khan's Taare Zameen Par shook the conscience of the nation.  One dealt in Sports and the other in Education.  CDI is already a declared blockbuster.  TZP released a little late and the collections are going to spill over in 2008.  The movie is going strong with the collections escalating.  The count is on, which is why it does not feature in this list.

1) Om Shanti Om -

Starring : Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade.

Om Shanti Om is the biggest blockbuster of the year. Total Net Gross - 86 crores.

The story is about a young film extra Shahrukh who dreams of making it big in Bollywood. He also adores the reigning film star, Deepika.  Unfortunate events lead to their death and resurrection. In their next janam, they carry forward their past dreams.  This movie is seen as a reflection of everything that is good about bollywood, served up in an entertaining masala.

2) Welcome -

Starring : Feroze Khan, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif

Collections are a staggering 34 crores in its first week. Promising Blockbuster

The story is about a mafia family that is keen to marry off their younger sister, Katrina to a decent young man.  Akshay Kumar is the unsuspecting candidate.  What follows is a laugh riot as Feroze, Nana and Anil try their best to make the marriage work.

3) Chak De India -

Total Net Gross - 64 crores. A Blockbuster which surprised and moved its viewers deeply.

This Shimit Amin movie was based on a true story adapted by Jaideep Sahni.  It was the story of a hockey player accused of match fixing.  He makes a comeback as a coach of women's team and inspires them to win the gold. It was an offbeat movie that deserved the blockbuster status.

4) Partner -

Starring : Salman Khan, Govinda, Katrina Kaif, Lara Dutta

Total Net Gross - 62 crores

Remake of Will Smith starrer Hitch, the movie worked largely due to the chemistry between Govinda and Salman Khan. The movie came at a time when there was no other good movie around.  It became a huge hit thanks to the Govinda antics.

5) Bhool Bhulaiyaa -

Starring : Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja, Ameesha Patel

Total Net Gross - 52 crores

Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, remake of a Malayalam movie, was the 3rd Super Hit for Akshay Kumar in 2007! The story was a mix of comedy and horror. There is a ghost in the haveli, and it is affecting the lives of the inmates.  Is it really a ghost or a figment of everybody's imagination? OK, the horror also has a sort of a psycological twist.

Akshay carries the movie through on his able shoulders.

OTHER SUCCESSES

Heyy Baby, again an Akshay and Katerina Starrer was a blockbuster hit. Making this the most successful year for the duo.

Jab We Met was the story of a runaway couple who discover what love is all about through trial and error.  This fun filled movie was embellished by good performances by Shahid, who was understated and magnificent, and Kareena, who was loud and gregarious.

Namastey London, with Akshay and Katrina again, had opened the year magnificently with a heartwarming NRI comes to sada Punjab saga.

Guru marked the first success of Abhi Ash.  The warts-and-all biopic on Ambani's life was much admired though not exactly a blockbuster.

Special marks for the low-budget Bheja Fry with Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapur and Sarika had the audiences rolling in the aisles with helpless laughter.  The movie worked in multiplexes, but the low budget made the movie a superhit.
