Shootout At Lokhandwala

Shootout At Lokhandwala
Director:

Apoorva Lakhia

The Troupe:

Sanjay Dutt, Suneil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Tusshar Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Arbaaz Khan

The Buzz: Cops and Robbers. A few good men battle to make Mumbai (Bombay) a safe place.

The Shell: At a shootout in Lokhandwala (a suburb in Mumbai) an infamous mafia man Maya Dolas was killed. This movie chronicles the before and after of the event. It goes into the lives of men who turn into dreaded killers and the frustrations of the police that is trying to contain the killers. As the events of the time are pretty fresh in peoples minds, including the case of the bar dancer Tarunnam, should make the view connect instantly with the story.

The Feel: It is the typical mafia and police encounter movie. It has all the ingredients of a reality movie. The ifs and whys behind the making of the mafia, and the ifs and whys behind why police has to resort to ‘encounters’. One tapori number and two bar dances add pep to the sordid proceedings. The janbaaz attitude of Sanjay Dutt has the audiences swooning. The man has style and presence that makes a movie look much bigger than it is. He plays ACP Khan who has battled khalistani militants and hand-picked a team to fight the mafia. He faces a human rights investigation from his own department after putting his life in line.

The Spiel: After Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost and Ek Ajnabee, this is Apoorva Lakhia’s third directorial venture. The first fell flat on its face and the second was lauded as a stylish thriller. This movie has generated a lot of buzz being based on a true event and having some of the biggest stars on the marquee. Vivek Oberoi retuns to form with his return to playing a mafia man after Company. It is a dark movie but well worth a watch.
