The Buzz:
Kiran Ahluwalia's Story on Screen
The Shell:
It is a cinematic presentation of Kiranjit Ahluwalia who faces extreme situations post her marriage to Deepak Ahluwalia and how she deals with them. The scrumptious Naveen Andrews (sadly for us) plays the hateful Deepak Ahluwalia. Nandita Das plays the supporter of Kiranjit. She has put in a powerhouse performance.
The Feel:
The details of the case are well known to everyone. Kiranjit found it hard to put up with an abusive mate and being subjected to married rape. She reacts by killing her husband. She would have faced life term as an accused for premeditated murder, if it hadn’t been for the Southall Black Sisters and NGO that helps victims of domestic violence. They fight on her behalf and see to it that she gets justice and wins freedom
The Spiel:
This had to come after all the excitement generated by Narain Kartikeyan’s foray into F1. Movies about Indian people living in Paraya Mulk come with a high quotient of glamour and are a surefire winners for audience looking for different fare.
